Façade block

The facade block, with its asymmetrical towers and deep, recessed portals, is a remarkable composition. Though the summits of the towers were only completed in the sixteenth century, the façade block itself was completed from c.1215-1300. It is remarkable restrained in deocration, having only two column statues: one of Saint Augustine, the patron of monastic order, and the other of Saint John the Baptist, the titular saint of the dedication.
