The small cloister

Period: gothic

The area between the canons’ room and the abbot’s parlor was probably always open space in the medieval period, given the elaborate lancet windows that originally opened onto the space from the medieval abbot’s room. In the sixteenth century, this space was reworked to include a small cloister with Renaissance decoration with the arcade of the cloister then blocking the windows of the abbot's parlor. Several bays of the western arcade remain standing, as does part of the northern wall with its consoles and vault formerets.
